Excise and law-enforcement agencies have strengthened anti-drug enforcement under special operations aimed at curbing narcotics distribution across the district. Authorities continue conducting inspections and awareness campaigns, particularly targeting youth and educational institutions.
Authorities have removed several rubber-yielding trees in parts of the district citing public safety concerns. While officials argue the action was necessary to prevent accidents during heavy rains and strong winds, environmental groups and local residents have raised questions regarding ecological impacts.
Pathanamthitta: Sadya will be served in Sabarimala from the new year. The sadya will be served which includes rice, dal, aviyal, thoran, pickle, sambar, rasam, papad and payasam. The Travancore Devaswom Board has issued an order in this regard. The dishes will be purchased through tenders or through Horticorp and Civil Supplies. The responsibility ofthe feast has been given to the Devaswom Commissioner. Rice and curries were provided till 2020. However, pulao was later served at the request of the southern states. There will be at least seven dishes in the feast. The feast will be served from 12 noon to 3 pm. Steel plate and glass are used for this. Devaswom Board president K Jayakumar had said that he had planned to serve a feast on banana leaves but he switched to a steel plate as he saw thatwaste management would be a problem. He had said that the change in the attitude of the Devaswom Board towards the pilgrims and the care given to them is aimed at providing a resourceful feast.
